Días 6-8

¡Hola amigos!

After a day of observation at Phawarispa on Friday, we gathered our belongings and began our trek to Machu Picchu. The rest of Friday evening consisted of traveling by bus and by train through the beautiful Peru landscapes until we reached Aguas Calientes near the base of Machu Picchu. In this town, we relaxed in natural hot springs then enjoyed some traditional Peruvian food for our dinner.

The next day, we woke up early to catch the bus up to Machu Picchu. Here, we met Carmen who guided us throughout the ruins of Machu Picchu and gave us an in depth history of the ruins. The ruins deserve no less a title than “wonder of the world.” We took the rest of the day to shop the local markets of Aguas Calientes before traveling to the town of Pisac, where we were welcomed into the guest home of our volunteer coordinator, Celeste.

On Sunday, we began our day with a homemade breakfast by Celeste and her husband, Calin, followed by a relaxing yoga class. After that, we went to the Sacred Valley to participate in an offering to the mother earth or “Pachamama” led by our tour guide Jesus. After a long day, we made our way back to our homestay where we were warmly welcomed by Rosana and Luis. After such a nonstop weekend, we were glad to be back in our home away from home.
